Description
King John's Hunting Lodge is a late 18th-century folly or cottage ornée located southeast towards Dogmersfield Park. This large, two-storey structure features an elaborate main facade with three gables, the central one being wider and taller. The facade includes panels, a first floor with three windows, and a ground floor with one door and one window. The rear brickwork displays projecting bands on the first and second floors, a plinth, and a band around the outer edge of the front. The gables have a slender ogee or Dutch shape, topped with finely-carved stone vase finials. The panels, windows, and the wider central doorway are framed with raised brick featuring ogee heads and cusping, and the windows are fitted with leaded casements. On the west side, there is an attached single-storey entrance block with a pyramid roof and timber-clad walls designed to resemble V-jointed rusticated stonework. The north face of this block has a Doric doorcase with a full entablature, including triglyphs, fluted pilasters, and a six-panelled door.
