Description
The Limes is a late 18th century, early 19th century house with a symmetrical facade. It is located on the north side of Hartley Wintney High Street. The main section features a two-storey design with a central entrance below a window, and is flanked by full-height, flattened semicircular projections, each containing a single window. The roof is slate-covered. The construction is primarily red brick in a Flemish bond, with a header bond used in the bow sections. It has a stone coping to the parapet, rubbed flat arches, and a plinth. The windows are sash windows in reveals, and are three-light windows in the main bays. A porch with a thinly-proportioned order on two columns leads to a doorway with an architrave and a six-panelled door with two top lights. Set back to the west is a lower, later wing of two storeys and three windows, with a hipped slate roof, painted brickwork, cambered openings (often called Dutch arches), and casements with small-paned metal lights. The interior retains original features including fireplaces, architraves to doorways, and a wide fanlight in the inner hall.
