Description

The Junction Tavern is a public house located on Leesland Road in Gosport, built around the 1890s. It features red brick construction in stretcher bond, accented with bands of blue brick and stone pediments. The building has hipped slate roofs with corbelled brick dentil eaves and brick axial and lateral stacks.

The tavern occupies a corner site, with the public bar situated at the north end and smoke-room and club rooms at the south end, showcasing a Dutch free-style design. The exterior consists of two and three storeys, with a two and three-bay east front. The main part on the right is two storeys high and three bays wide, featuring three Dutch gables, the leftmost being wider and containing a pair of second-floor windows. Brick pilasters and a stringcourse adorn the façade, while sash windows with glazing bars at the top are set in segment arch openings with small keystones on the first floor. The ground floor has a stuccoed public house front with pilasters and an entablature, along with glazing bars in the top lights, and a doorway located at the right corner.

The right-hand (north) return has a similar design but includes an oriel window on the first floor with bowed sashes and a lead ogee canopy. At the south end, the lower two-storey club room mirrors this style, featuring two pedimented gables flanking a lateral stack above a panel inscribed "Club Room," with a pedimented doorway on the right.

Inside, the bar has been altered, while the smoke room retains a slate chimneypiece and arched wall alcoves.
