Description

Wakefield House is a large late Regency house dating from around 1830, notable for its complex symmetrical design and sparse Grecian ornamentation. The building has three storeys and a basement, featuring a hipped slate roof. The façade includes a simple eaves cornice and horizontal bands on the second floor that contain panels below the windows, decorated with Greek fret ornament. The first floor also has bands with similar panels, showcasing palmette ornament and triglyphs in the central unit. The windows are sashes set in reveals, with the central ground floor window consisting of three lights within a plain architrave. The house is further distinguished by its prominent moulded chimneys.
