Description

This is a 16th-century house that was altered in the 19th century. It comprises two parallel ranges. The north range exhibits exposed timber framing with brick infill in a herringbone pattern, and a very large external chimney stack. Some earlier windows have been bricked up, although a three-light sash window with glazing bars remains on the first floor, along with a window in the gable above. The roof is tiled.

The south facade features a central gable flanked by two projecting wings. The house has two and a half storeys and seven windows, including a central blank window featuring a sundial. There are two dormers and an attic window in the gable. The sash windows have glazing from the late 19th century. A six-panel door, with the top four panels glazed, is set within a moulded architrave and sheltered by a large flat hood resting on brackets. To the west is a one-and-a-half-storey section with two hipped roof dormers and sash windows with boxed frames.

The interior includes panelling from the 17th and 18th centuries, a 17th-century staircase, exposed beams, and a large wall post. Great Posbrooke forms a group with the eastern and southern barns. The store shed, small barn, cartshed, and pigsties at Great Posbrooke Farm are of local interest.
