Description
Fern Hill Farmhouse is a Grade II listed building located on the west side of Mill Lane in Titchfield. This farmhouse features a timber-framed bay that likely represents the remains of a hall, which is attached to a two-storey stone cross wing adorned with red brick dressings and a stuccoed south facade. An axial chimney stack is positioned between the two sections, and a datestone from 1689 is incorporated into the wall. To the west, there is a later addition from the 19th century, also two storeys high, constructed of red brick. The building has a half-hipped roof covered with old tiles.
The foundations of the farmhouse extend beyond the current one-storey hall section, which has later outshuts on both the north and south sides. The windows include barred sashes and casements. Inside, there are 17th-century angled fireplaces that include a bread oven. A staircase from the 16th or 17th century features finials, newels, pendants, a thick string, and turned balusters. The timber-framed section has low tie beams, and the eastern interior wall showcases exposed timber framing with a centre-blocked door situated above a beam. The Tithe Barn at Fern Hill Farm forms a group with Fern Hill Farmhouse.
