Description
Portland House and the smaller cottage attached to its north side are mainly 18th century buildings located on the south side of Hamble High Street. The structure is an old frame building with a solid wall on the ground floor, featuring two storeys and an attic on the south side. It has a red tile roof with half hips at the ends and a gable in the middle, along with one dormer. The walls are rendered and painted, while the north end is constructed of brickwork. The windows include sashes in exposed frames and casements in the cottage. A delicate doorcase with a moulded pediment surrounds a Gothic (filled) fanlight, flanked by fluted pilasters, leading to a panelled door with a stone step. There is a lead insurance sign above the door.
