Description
Castleton House and the adjoining Compass Point Chandlery date from the 18th century and form a non-symmetrical pair of two-storey buildings. Originally, there were four windows, but the second window is now blank. The ground floor features one window, a door, and a shop front. The buildings have a red tile-hipped roof and brick dentil eaves. The walls are constructed of brickwork, with a blue header band and red dressings around the openings and quoins, a flush band on the first floor, and rubbed cambered arches on the ground floor. The windows are sashes set in exposed frames. There are two notable doorcases with canopies, friezes, and pilasters in a simple style, along with stone approach steps.
