Description
Conford House is a house that dates from the 16th century, with additions from the late 17th century and early 19th century. The walls are made of painted ironstone, featuring ironstone, other stone, and brick dressings. There is a first-floor band of ironstone with tile bands above and below, and a plinth. The north door has a hoodmould, and there is a Tudor-arched doorway that has been filled in. Many earlier openings have also been filled. The west wall displays massive exposed framing with brick infill, along with a brick wall beneath the outshot. The roof is tiled, with a half-hipped design and a catslide at the rear, along with three small hipped dormers.
The house has timber framing with later cladding on three elevations. The south front is two storeys high with an attic and features three windows. The front has sash windows in exposed frames, while casements are found elsewhere. There is also a French door. The north doorway has an 18th-century plain frame with a six-panelled door. Inside the west end outshot, the lower part of the west walls of the main block includes a light with a mullion and transom that has been filled in, and part of the frame is exposed within.
