Description
The George Inn is an early 19th-century public house located on Butts Road. It is a two-storey building with six bays, constructed of colour-washed brick and topped with a slate roof. The ground floor features a plain secondary door, two recessed sash windows, a main entrance with a Tuscan porch, and two additional recessed sash windows. The first floor has recessed sash windows, with the exception of a blank window above the porch. Notably, James Burt, a famous cricketer who reportedly weighed 22 stones, lived here. The George Inn is part of a group that includes The Hop Poles Public House in Mount Pleasant Road, Nos 89 and 91, Nos 93 and 95 High Street, No 1 Mount Pleasant Road, and Nos 106 to 112 (even) High Street.
