Description
Hollington Farm is an early 18th-century farmhouse. It is situated in Highclere and possesses a symmetrical north-east front of two storeys and an attic, with a basement level, and a 1:1:1 window arrangement. The roof is hipped and tiled, featuring three dormers with sash windows. It has a modillion cornice and a raised pediment above the slightly projecting central section. The brick walls are of red brick in Flemish bond, with blue brick headers used in arched Venetian windows on each side, within the pediment, and as flush panels flanking the centrepiece. The windows are sash windows, predominantly original but some are Victorian. The front door is sheltered by a large, moulded hood with a panelled soffit, supported by carved brackets above narrow, panelled pilasters; it has a moulded architrave and an eight-panelled door (with two glazed panels at the top), set on stone steps. The north side of the farmhouse has a later, plain extension with a parapet, while the south end is tile-hung. The rear has later flat roofing covering the portion raised from one to two storeys. The interior retains an original staircase, dado panelling, a corner cupboard, some fireplace surrounds, and numerous panelled doors within architrave frames. A Sun Insurance lead sign within the pediment displays the number 756879, and was issued on 10 December 1803.
