Description
The Old House is an early 18th-century Queen Anne style house, with later extensions added in the late 19th century. The nearby rebuilt church dates from 1717. The east front features a symmetrical main section with two storeys and an attic, comprising five windows, and a south wing with two storeys and three windows. The house has a tile roof and a hipped central dormer. The main front is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with a stone coping to a parapet, rubbed flat arches, and sash windows in exposed frames, where the ground floor windows have cills at floor level. The south wing has a tile roof with brick dentil eaves and English bond walling, also featuring rubbed arches on the ground floor and sash windows, including a central Venetian light. The substantial Victorian extensions match the original form but are larger in scale; the north front includes a columned porch with an arched stone hood and simple mouldings. Inside, the hall and a ground floor room retain 18th-century pinewood panelling.
