Description
Maskett's Manor Farm Barn is a barn dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century. It is timber framed and clad in weather-boarding, featuring a steeply pitched hipped tiled roof with an off-center later gabled midstrey. The barn has sandstone footings at the rear and consists of three bays, with an aisle on one side. It is supported by massive jowled posts resting on brick padstones. The old rafters do not have a ridgepiece, and there are chamfered tie beams and angled queen struts with through purlins. Windbraces are present in the central bay, and the corner post of the midstrey is a reused top of a wall plate. The aisle includes chamfered wind braces. There is an inserted floor supported by six 20th-century posts. A notable feature is the integral lean-to on the right side, which is of the same construction as the barn, as indicated by the continuation of the sandstone footings into it, similar windbraces in the wall frame, and the cantilevered barn roof extending over it. Some old wide oak weatherboarding can be found on the lean-to.
