Jarvis Brook, Flight Of Steps With Retaining Wall, Pool And Statue Approximately 110 Metres East Of Rotherfield Hall

Jarvis Brook features a flight of steps with a retaining wall, a pool, and a statue, located approximately 110 metres east of Rotherfield Hall. This garden feature was likely designed in 1897 by Francis Inigo Thomas for Lindsay Lindsay-Hogg. It is constructed from rubblestone brought to course and ashlar, with the statue probably made of composite stone. The design includes a double flight of steps that turn to meet at the center, rising a short distance as a single flight. The retaining wall has square-sectioned piers, flat coping, and a central balustrade. There are arched openings beneath each upper flight of steps, and at the center, there is a keyed round-arched niche with an impost band and a statue of a Greek woman carrying a jug. In front of the retaining wall is a shallow pool, with the front retaining wall featuring a central bow. This feature is part of the garden setting for Rotherfield Hall, which is listed as Grade II* in the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of Special Interest.
