Description

Oak Lodge is a house that was originally part of the kitchen wing to Portsdown. It dates from the late 17th century and was remodelled around 1925 by John D Clark, a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects. The building is constructed of flint with brick or Reigate stone dressings and has a tiled roof with a 20th-century brick chimneystack. It is one storey high with attics and features two windows.

The front elevation includes a section of flint work on the left side with red brick dressings. There is a 20th-century gabled dormer and a ground floor three-light canted bay window. To the right, there is a gabled addition from 1925, also made of flint with Reigate stone dressings, featuring a gable adorned with red brick lacing courses. The first floor has one casement window, while the ground floor has a two-light arched stone window.

On the rear elevation, there is a one-storey flint section to the right with a hipped tiled roof. This section includes two flat-roofed 20th-century dormers with leaded lights and two diagonal brick buttresses. The kitchen window retains its pegged oak frame. To the left, there is a timber-framed gable above a flint ground floor, with the framing dating from 1925 but serving a structural purpose. The first floor has a four-light metal casement window, while the other windows are 20th-century oak framed. The corner below the left side of the gable is cut diagonally and decorated with stone shields.

The side elevation features an oak four-centred arched doorcase from 1925 with a plank door. Inside, there are some 17th-century wall framing and ceiling beams, while most other features, including the winder staircase and doors, date from around 1925.
