Description

Belmont is an 18th-century square house, originally the Rectory, located on Waldron Road, East Hoathly. It is a building of group value. The house is two storeys and has an attic, with three windows across the front and three dormers. The exterior is red brick with grey headers, and the front is stuccoed, likely added later. The ground floor is rusticated, topped by a cornice and a high parapet. The parapet features balustrades in front of the dormer windows. Original glazing bars are intact. A porch with Doric columns, a triglyph frieze, and a projecting cornice stands at the head of four steps, featuring an iron handrail. A north wing is constructed of red brick and grey headers. In 1760, the house was occupied by the Reverend Thomas Turner, whose diary provides a historical record of the property.
