Description

Old Buckhurst is a stone gateway located to the north-west of the house, originally built for Sir Richard Sackville before the Sackville family moved to Knole in Kent. This structure was part of a complete courtyard. The gateway features a carriage archway on the ground floor with a four-centred head and has two tiers of three-light windows on the inner side. It is flanked by buttresses topped with finials and has a castellated parapet. In the early 17th century, part of the remaining house was demolished, and the materials were used to construct Sackville College in East Grinstead.
