Description
The Parish Church of St Michael, located in Withyham, is a Grade I listed building. It features a chancel, a south vestry, a north chapel known as the Sackville chapel, a double nave without an aisle between the sections, a south aisle, a south porch, and a west tower. The church dates back to the 14th century but was rebuilt after a fire in 1663, with work completed between that date and 1672. The Sackville chapel was added in 1680 and contains a remarkable series of tombs for members of the Sackville family, including a notable tomb for Thomas Sackville, who died in 1677, created by C G Cibber. The church is designated as Grade I due to these significant monuments and the medieval tower.
