Description
The terrace walling, steps, seats, and balustrading at Duckings were created around 1911, incorporating architectural fragments from the 19th century or earlier. Designed by Helen Elizabeth Weir, these features enhance the gardens at Duckings in an Italianate style. The terrace is located to the southwest of Duckings and includes low stone walling with square piers topped with ball finials. At the northeast end, there is a stone seat with arms made of console brackets and a back formed from architectural fragments featuring trefoil panels. Steps lead to a curved bay with additional balustrading and another stone seat. Further steps descend to the banks of a large pond, where the walling continues with two more stone seats. The southwestern side of the pond is bordered by distinctive square stone pier balustrading. Additional architectural fragments include cross-shaped panels and corbel heads. These garden features create a significant early 20th-century garden structure that complements Duckings and contributes to the property's historical context.
