Description
The Grey Tower is a Martello Tower No 62, built in 1806 as a coastal defense. It is a circular structure made of red brick, with walls that are 5 and a half to 6 feet thick. The exterior was originally coated with cement, which has mostly peeled off over time. Inside, there is a central brick pillar with vaulted arches. The ground floor contained a magazine that had no entrance from this level. Above, there were quarters for the garrison, divided into two rooms with two round-headed windows. The only entrance to the building is located about 20 feet above ground level. During the last war, a concrete pill box was added to the roof. The tower has since been converted into a dwelling, with modern windows inserted.
