Description
The Parish Church of St Nicolas is a Grade I listed building located on George Lane in Pevensey. It is constructed of flint with stone dressings and features a tiled roof. The church includes a chancel, a north chapel, a nave with aisles, and a tower situated between the north chapel and the north aisle, along with a clerestory. Originally built in the 13th century, the church underwent restoration by George Gilbert Scott junior in 1879, particularly the chancel, which had been previously closed and disused. The north chapel was rebuilt on its original foundations in 1882. The top stage of the tower, which had been demolished around 1800, was reconstructed in 1893 and topped with a broached shingled spire. Inside, there is a crown post roof and a monument dedicated to John Wheatley.
