Description

Clare Reed Opticians and J. Perigoe and Son, Funeral Directors is a house that has been converted into commercial premises. It dates from the early 19th century and was altered in the later 19th century. The building features a painted brick ground floor and a weatherboarded first floor, topped with a Welsh slate roof. It is two storeys high and has a façade with two bays on the left and one bay that is set back. The second bay has a curved corner.

The left-hand bays include a brick plinth supporting a late 19th-century shop window with slender columns and arched windows. There is a recessed central entrance with a half-glazed door and an overlight, along with a corniced fascia board with end pilasters. On the first floor, there are two sixteen-pane sash windows. A stack is located at the left end, while the right corner has a board door. The set-back third bay features a replaced ground floor window and a sixteen-pane sash window on the first floor, along with a truncated extruded stack at the right end.

On the right return, the right bay has a 20th-century door to the right of the stack, with a window on each floor to its right. The ground floor window has four panes, while the upper window is a sixteen-pane sash.

At the rear, there is a truncated extruded stack on the left, with two windows to its right, one of which has small panes. To the far right, there is a gabled weatherboard extension that includes a sixteen-pane sash window on its left side.

There is a single-storey brick outbuilding attached to the rear, but it is not included in the listing. The building is noted for its group value.
