Description

The Bridge between the Lakes at Ashburnham Place is a structure designed by George Dance around 1780. It is built of ashlar and features a round-headed arch with a moulded archivolt. Above the parapet, there is a cornice, and a pier is located in the center of each side, topped by a flat pediment. At each end of the parapet, there are octagonal piers with flat caps. The bridge has curved sections that end in round piers on octagonal bases. Beyond these, the wall curves around to square piers, which on the east side form a pair that flanks a flight of steps leading down to the lake, intended for the use of boats.
