Description
This range of ten houses occupies a series of high, vaulted cellars which date from around 1300 and are partially above ground. The houses themselves appear to be 18th century in origin, although with variations. Number 8 is timber-framed and has been refaced. Numbers 1 and 2 have older bricks at the rear and are likely timber-framed structures refronted in the 18th century, suggesting the remaining houses may have been treated similarly. The buildings are two storeys high, with numbers 2 and 8 also possessing an attic storey. There are ten windows in total. The front elevations are tile-hung upon a red brick base, and the roofs are tiled. The two-window bays at each end of the range project slightly. The windows are casement types. Access to the doorways involves ascending five steps. Number 2 has one dormer window, while number 8 features a half-hipped gable with an attic window. Numbers 1 to 9 have rear-facing front doors, whereas number 10 has a front door facing south, sheltered by a flat wooden hood supported on brackets. Continuous loft spaces are located between numbers 3 and 8.
