Description

The Stone House is a Grade II listed building located on the north side of High Street in Icklesham, Winchelsea. It was originally a stable that has been adapted for residential use, with an extra storey added, likely in the 18th century. The building is two storeys high, featuring one window facing High Street and three windows facing Barrack Square. The ground floor is constructed of stone rubble, while the upper storey is tile-hung. The roof is tiled, with the east ridge interrupted to create a projection. The building has modern windows. At the southeast corner, there is a pentagonal red brick projection that is one storey tall. Additionally, there is a ground floor addition to the west. The house has a cellar, approximately 1300 square feet in size, which is accessed from Barrack Square and includes two windows on the south side. The listing is designated as Grade II due to the significance of the cellar.
