Description

Wellhouse is a 15th-century timber-framed building that is said to have been occupied by the verderers of the Brickwall estate. It was well restored around 1933 and features plaster infilling and curved braces on the first floor. The building has a thatched roof and a gable at the north end of the front, which is adorned with carved bargeboards, a pendant, and a finial. There are casement windows, some of which have original wooden mullions, and one window has three tiers of lights. An oriel window is supported by brackets. The south front has its first floor oversailing on brackets, and there is a ground floor addition at the north end. The house has two storeys and four windows. Inside, there is a notable original hall that has never been floored over, a king-post roof, and a wall painting. In front of the house, there are seven unusually large, almost conical, clipped yew trees.
