GV II

Outbuilding. C18 with C19 alterations. Probably constructed as an outbuilding to Tipsey Cottage (q.v), subsequently used as a cottage in C19, now used for storage. C18 timber frame rewalled or infilled with brick in C19. A tall, plain tiled gambrel roof with tile gable at south end. Brick gable and stack with chimney pot at south end. Single storey and attic. Single unit plan parallel with street. Central entrance doorway in heavy timber frame with threshold lower than pavement. C19 vertical board door with C.l strap hinges. C19 sash to left with central vertical glazing bar. Casement with glazing bars in north gable. Timber frame exposed in south gable: principal beam, end rafted couple and raking struts to collar. At rear a central doorway with rectangular fanlight. Interior: In attic 3 bays, with collars to gambrel purlins. Exposed upper rafters. On the entrance doorway a small Plaque inscribed ,,SMUGGLERS COTTAGE. The smallest house in Sussex,, Group value with Tipsey Cottage.
