Description

The Cheyney Charity Almshouses are a pair of single-storeyed almshouses located in Ringmer, dating back to their founding in 1611 and rebuilt in 1848. The building features one storey and an attic, with two windows and two gabled dormers. The exterior is faced with knapped flints, which are accented by long and short window surrounds and quoins made of Roman cement. The windows are casement style with diamond-shaped latticed panes. A gabled porch with an archway that has a pointed head adds to the architectural character of the almshouses. Above the door, there is a plaque that commemorates their founding and endowment by Mrs. Elizabeth Cheyney.
