Description

The Seaford War Memorial is a tall memorial cross located in a small garden at the junction of Sutton Park Road and Avondale Road. It is constructed from Cornish granite and features a wheel-head cross in the Celtic style, adorned with carved interlace patterns that extend onto a panel on the front face of the cross shaft. The front face of the cross head is decorated with five hemispherical bosses. The cross shaft is supported by a plinth and a two-stepped base.

Leaded lettering on the recessed front, south-facing side of the plinth reads, "THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE/ TO THE MEMORY OF THOSE/ WHO LAID DOWN THEIR/ LIVES FOR THEIR COUNTRY."

On the west-facing side of the plinth, the names of those who were killed during the Boer War are listed alphabetically below the dates 1899 - 1902, followed by the names of casualties from the First World War under the dates 1914 – 1918. The names of additional servicemen killed in the First World War continue on the east-facing side of the plinth. The north-facing side lists the names of those killed in the Second World War, with the inscription reading 1939 – 1945/ SERVICES/ (NAMES)/ CIVILIANS/ (NAMES).
