Description

The East Hill Lift, built in 1903, is located on the north side of Rock-a-Nore Road. The machinery housing at the top is constructed of random stone and features parapets and coping, with bartizans on the corners at the rear (north). The front (south side) has two squat square towers that flank a wide moulded arch, which is glazed in and positioned in front of the tracks. The lifts operate on a steep incline. At the bottom, there is a small brick building topped with a corrugated asbestos roof. This building has a gable with tile-hanging and a small Venetian window, along with a central doorway and flanking windows that are adorned with a stone hood supported by brackets.
