Description
Numbers 7 and 8 Tackleway are a late 18th- or early 19th-century semi-detached stuccoed house. They have a parapet and hipped roofs covered with slate and tiles. The houses are three storeys high with a basement, and each has two windows facing the street. The windows are sashes set in exposed casings, some with glazing bars; the second-floor window of number 8 has been replaced with a modern casement. A pair of central doorways have moulded doorcases, cornices, and friezes, with rectangular fanlights above. Number 7 has a modern door, while number 8 has a flush panelled door. Brick chimney stacks are also present.
The rear elevation, which overlooks the town, is tile-hung and has three storeys and a basement, with three windows. The windows are sashes; number 7's windows have glazing bars, and the outer windows are three-light sashes. There are coupled central doorways in moulded doorcases with cornices and friezes, rectangular fanlights, and modern doors, approached by a flight of steps. Number 8 has old iron railings with turned newels.
Numbers 1 to 13 Tackleway form a group, although numbers 1 to 6 and 9 to 12 have only local interest.
