Description

Nos. 56, 56A, 57 and 57A, George Street, are early to mid-19th century buildings of stucco construction, located high up and set back from the street. They are distinguished by a parapet. The buildings are three storeys high and comprise four windows across. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars set within exposed casings. The ground and first floors of Nos. 56A and 57A have been built out to the street line. No. 57A has stuccoing, a cornice, and is two storeys high with a splayed bay on the first floor featuring sash windows without glazing bars. The ground floor of No. 57A contains a Victorian shop front with fluted pilasters and ornate consoles supporting the fascia. No. 56A has an altered Victorian shop front and a single storey. The buildings are included for group value, as all listed buildings in George Street form a group.
