Description
Devonshire Park Theatre was built in 1884 by Henry Currey, with significant interior remodeling by Frank Matcham in 1903. The theatre features a rendered Italianate front and slate roofs. The front is flanked by a four-storey tower with quoins, arcaded top storeys, and pyramid lead roofs. The entrance is located between the towers and is topped with a pediment. There is a domed foyer, possibly designed by Matcham. Inside, the auditorium includes a gallery and grand tier, showcasing good plasterwork on the gallery fronts and a saucer dome. The proscenium arch is supported by giant brackets, which is an unusual design element. The theatre appears to have remained unaltered since the 1903 renovations.
