Description

The bronze statue of a soldier from the Royal Sussex Regiment is located on Grand Parade. It depicts the soldier in full dress uniform, complete with a plumed shako and drawn sword, with a cannon positioned behind him. The statue was created by W. Goscombe John to honor the Second Battalion of the Royal Sussex Regiment and was cast by Burton of Thames Ditton. The plinth features four plaques: two depicting military scenes on the sides, a roll of honour at the rear, and a dedication plaque at the front.
