Description
Hopkiln Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the 16th and 17th centuries, with alterations made in the 19th and mid-20th centuries. The building features a combination of brick and timber framing with brick infill, topped by an old tiled gabled roof. The plan is irregular, with a crosswing on the east side that has a catslide roof at the rear and consists of one by two framed bays. The farmhouse is two storeys high with an attic and has a large chimney with three clustered shafts located at the center of the ridge.
On the entrance front, part of the timber frame on the left has been removed at ground floor level, which includes one bay of late 20th-century leaded lights. In the center, there is a gabled entrance porch from the 20th century. To the right of the porch, a gable to the crosswing has been rebuilt in brick, featuring a brick string and one bay of 20th-century three-light leaded casements, along with a single light in the attic. There is also a 19th-century catslide roof and an extension to the right. Inside, much of the timber frame is exposed, and there is a large inglenook fireplace.
