Description
Wargrave Chapel is a Congregational Church, built in 1835 in a neo-Gothic style. The exterior is painted roughcast with a plinth and small buttresses on the side walls, topped with stone-coped gables to a slate roof. The windows have leaded glass with pointed arches. The chapel comprises a five-bay nave, a west bell tower, and a chancel to the east, sheltered by a pent roof. The front entrance has three bays, with a bell tower in the centre. A flight of three steps leads to the entrance, flanked by pairs of two-light leaded windows with pointed arches and crudely cusped heads. The tower has three stages, with a string mould and full-height engaged hexagonal columns on each corner, featuring a moulded cornice and castellated tops. It also has a battlemented parapet, two-light louvred openings on three sides of the bell chamber, and a recessed two-light leaded casement below. The entrance features a pair of wood planked doors with three-centred heads, set under a pointed arch. A 20th century entrance and parish room extension have been added on the left side.
