Description
No 20, known as Charles Toller Antique Dealer, is an 18th-century building located on the north-west side of Datchet High Street. It features a gable-ended façade constructed of red stretchers and grey headers, with a moulded fascia and soffit at the eaves. The building has two storeys and an attic, topped with a plain tile roof and a flanking chimney on the left side. The ground floor is partly rendered and colourwashed, showcasing three double-hung sash windows with glazing bars set in flush surrounds, and a brick string course at the first floor. There is a modern projecting square bay shop front and a door designed in a "Georgian" style. An old insurance plaque is mounted on the front wall above the entrance.
At the rear of the property, there is a range of 16th to 17th-century timber frame buildings. One of these, positioned at right angles to the main building, consists of three bays, featuring a green post roof and clasped purlins, along with an old four-light diamond mullioned window at the first floor's east end on the south elevation. To the left of this structure is a two-light window, which is old but later in style, alongside a modern small pane window and a small old fixed light window on the ground floor. The roofs of these buildings are covered with old tiles, and many old timbers are exposed internally, some of which have been reused.
On the rear elevation of the 18th-century house, there is an elegant 18th-century doorcase that has been repositioned from the front. This doorcase features rounded and reeded pilasters and a decorated flat hood with a shallow projection. Additionally, there is a further building at right angles to the timber frame at the rear, which is 19th-century and of no special interest.
