Description
The Post House is a building located on High Street in Datchet, dating from the early 19th century. Its front is early 19th century, but it likely continues the 16th-century frame of the adjacent Old Bridge House. The structure has two storeys and is roughcast with a high parapet and an old tile hipped roof.
The building features a two-storey, three-bay timber balcony with a flat roof above. The balcony is supported by chamfered posts topped with ball finials and has turned balusters on the first floor. Curved braces with moulded bases support the balcony and return at the ends. Sash windows with glazing bars are present on the wall behind, which is connected to a 17th-century colour-washed brick building at the rear. This rear building is linked to the front by a timber-framed, cement-rendered wing that has an early 19th-century closed porch on the ground floor and two casement windows on the first floor.
The interior has been significantly modernised and altered. The building is included in the heritage listing mainly for its group value with the surrounding structures.
