Description

Ovey's Farmhouse is a hall house that has been converted into a residential home. It dates from the late 14th century, was extended in the 16th century, and underwent alterations in the mid-20th century. The building features a timber frame with painted brick infill and has an old tile gabled roof. It is arranged in an L-plan with five bays, including a one-bay service end on the east, a one-bay cross passage, and a two-bay former hall. There is an extension to the north, and the house has two storeys plus an attic.

The chimney arrangement includes one end chimney on the left, another on the ridge that has been cut down to the right of centre, and a third early 20th-century chimney at the rear. The south front has a black rendered plinth and open eaves, with scattered three-light leaded casements set within the framing. The entrance features an old wide plank door on the right, aligned with the cross passage, and a similar but smaller door to the right of this with a small glass panel.

Inside, the timber frame is exposed, showcasing heavy joists in the service end. One of the two original door frames remains in the cross passage to the service area, featuring a pointed arched and chamfered head. An inserted inglenook chimney has been altered, and the roof was completely destroyed in the mid-20th century, replaced with a modern structure.
