Description

The King's Arms Hotel is a building that now serves as bars and a restaurant. It dates from the late 17th century, was rebuilt in the mid-18th century, and has been extended and altered in the late 20th century. The structure is made of painted brick and features a tile-coped gabled roof with varying heights. Originally rectangular in shape, it now has an irregular plan due to large extensions at the rear. The building is partly two storeys and partly two storeys with attics.

The road-facing front has a black painted plinth and a string course above the first-floor windows. To the left, there is a lower one-bay wing that dates from the 19th century, featuring three-light casements on both the ground and first floors with segmental arches. A half-glazed door is located on the right side of the symmetrical main section. The first floor includes two gabled dormers and three two-light casements with overlights, while the ground floor has four sash windows and a central 18th-century panelled door beneath an ornate hood with carved brackets.

Inside, there is a fine late 17th-century dog-leg staircase with four flights that runs the full height of the main section. This staircase features barley sugar balusters, heavy moulded handrails, square newels, and a closed moulded string.
