Description

Oldfield Lodge is a late 18th-century building, constructed in 1790 for Count de Crecy. It stands three storeys tall and is made of yellow stock brick, featuring a moulded Portland stone cornice, a parapet with moulded stone coping, and balustrade panels above the windows. The hipped slate roof is complemented by flanking chimneys.

On the second floor, there are three windows with glazing bars and red brick arches, although the window on the right-hand side is blocked and painted over. The first floor, which serves as the principal floor, has two Palladian windows set in arched recesses adorned with radiating fan ornament in the tympanum; the right-hand window here is also blocked and painted.

The central entrance features a six-panelled door flanked by sidelights and topped with a radiating fanlight, all within a similar decorative surround. This entrance is approached by a flight of moulded stone steps that lead to a central landing with plain tailings. The ground floor includes three windows with glazing bars and semi-circular heads, framed by pilasters and a moulded surround.

A screen wall along the road is marked by brick piers with stone strings and moulded stone caps, which feature composite rosettes in between. The gate piers retain original wrought iron lampholders.

Inside, the entrance hall showcases pilasters with acanthus caps, a plaster frieze, and a delicate cornice with double scrolled brackets and semi-circular fans. The staircase hall features an elegant elliptical stair with plain balusters and a wreathed handrail, along with a similar frieze and cornice as the entrance. The reception rooms are decorated with friezes and cornices, and simple marble fire surrounds, while the bedrooms contain simple reeded columns.
