Description

Maidenhead Bridge, opened to traffic in 1777, was built by John Townsend of Oxford following the design and supervision of Sir Robert Taylor. The bridge is constructed from Portland stone and features five arches over the river, along with four diminishing arches in the approaches. Notable architectural elements include stone projecting vermiculated voussoirs, a moulded cornice, and a balustrade.
