Description
The garden walls and piers in the garden of The Refectory, located on the east gable, date from the 17th century and part of the 18th century. They are constructed from brick, chalk, and flint, forming a U-shape, with the southern leg adjoining The Refectory, which is listed separately. The southern section and part of the adjoining eastern section are made of chalk and feature a stone coping, along with two round-headed arches that have chalk dressings, although these are now blocked with brickwork. Just north of the arches, there are two large piers topped with moulded stone and ball finials. The remaining sections of the wall are faced with brick on the north and east sides, while the inner sides are made of chalk and include several later square-headed openings.
