Description
Parsonage House is a house dating back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th and 18th centuries. A date panel, TCG 1619, in the right gable likely refers to an alteration of the earlier 16th-century structure, and further additions were made in the 18th century. The north-west front features a stone tile roof. The left side is constructed of chalk and flint squares arranged in a chequer pattern, while the right side is of 18th-century brick. It has one two-light casement window on the left and two vertical sliding sash windows with glazing bars on the right.
The north-east front, altered in the 18th century, is two storeys with an attic, and has an old tile roof with three gables – the left gable is wider than the right. A smaller, slightly projecting gable is centrally located. The outer gables each contain a single window in the attic, and two on the floors below; these are two-light casement windows with arched heads, stone key blocks, springers, and wooden pointed tracery. The central portion contains a six-panelled entrance door with an arched fanlight and gothic glazing set within a rectangular architrave featuring oars, a triple key block, frieze, cornice and pediment. Above is a two-light leaded casement, and below, three sash windows; the centre light is arched with a key block and gothic glazing, with side lights featuring octagonal and diamond glazing. A smaller, earlier doorway with a stone moulded architrave is located to the far right.
Inside, the rear room and main entrance hall feature 18th-century panelling. The staircase has a Chinese Chippendale balustrade.
