Description
The Old School House is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the 18th century. It is constructed of brick, featuring grey headers and red stretchers, with a roughcast south gable and a half hipped thatched roof. The building has a rectangular plan that runs at right angles to the road and to the adjacent property, No. 22. It is one and a half storeys tall, with two dormers that have thatch swept around to the east and west elevations, and a large grouped stack at the south end of the ridge.
On the west elevation, there are two three-light casements with cambered heads to the left, a four-panel door to the right of centre, and another three-light casement with a cambered head to the right. The south elevation features a 20th-century canted bay window on the ground floor, with a three-light casement above it. The east elevation includes a 20th-century French casement located off centre to the right, a large 20th-century half-glazed porch at the far right, and two two-light 17th-century casements with leaded lights in the dormers. There is also a Sun Insurance plaque on the wall plate near the left dormer.
