Description
Barn. Built in the late 18th century, located approximately 25 metres to the southwest of Princes’ Farmhouse. The barn is timber-framed and features tarred weatherboard cladding on a brick plinth. It has a half-hipped roof covered with plain tiles beneath thatch. The building comprises five bays, arranged with aisles, and includes central cart-entries that rise through the eaves, each with a hipped, plain tile gable. The cart-entries have board doors fitted with old strap hinges and latches. The east elevation has two doors on either side of the cart-entry. The rear elevation contains a door at each end and two-light windows. The right return side has an inserted loading door at ground level, two windows above, and an original loading door in the gable. The left return side has various windows. The interior showcases a timber frame constructed from high-quality softwood, with large timbers supporting jowled aisle posts with straight braces up to arcade plates and tie-beams. Long raking braces extend downwards to wall ties set on brick plinths. The walls feature narrow vertical panels and diagonal braces. The roof structure includes stepped collared queen-strut trusses with principal rafters and two tiers of clasped purlins, along with a yoked plank ridge piece.
