Description

Drakes is an early 17th-century farmhouse, now a cottage, with a 19th-century extension and 20th-century alterations. It is constructed of brick and timber frame, with some weatherboarding, and has a thatched roof. The rectangular plan runs north to south and incorporates a two-bay timber frame. The building is one and a half storeys high, with two two-light dormers cut into the thatch at the eaves on the west side. A chimney is located at the north end of the timber frame and at the junction of the frame and the 19th-century extension. The west elevation features a low, weatherboarded garage to the left, a store in the centre, the two-bay timber frame with a canted bay window in the left bay, and a three-light 19th-century cast-iron diamond-paned casement in the right bay. To the right is a brick 19th-century extension with a boarded door in a cambered head opening and a two-light casement window.
