Description
Middle House is a house dating from the late 17th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of flint with brick dressings, a plinth, and a plat band. The building features a moulded wooden eaves cornice beneath an old tile roof, which has an end stack to the left and two hipped dormers with 2-light casements, one located in the centre and the other off-centre to the right. At the rear, there is a partial catslide roof with a central gabled stair projection from the 17th century. The house has two storeys and an attic, with three first-floor 2-light casements that have Gothick traceried heads. The ground floor includes two 3-light casements with Gothick traceried heads and heavy stone surrounds, flanking a central six-panelled door that has a rectangular 2-light overlight and a heavy stone surround topped with a cornice on scrolled brackets. Inside, there is a 17th-century square well staircase at the rear, featuring three flights to each floor, square newels, turned balusters, a moulded rail, and a continuous string. Additionally, there are wall paintings beneath wallpaper in the first-floor room to the right.
