Description
Vine Cottage is a house and shop that was formerly an inn. It dates back to the 17th century, with a refacing from the 18th century and later additions to the rear. The building is timber framed, with brick facing added later. The timber frame is exposed on the north and south sides, featuring brick nogging. It has a hipped old tile roof with a partial catslide at the rear, an end stack on the left, and a stack behind the ridge that is off-centre to the right. The structure consists of three framed bays and stands two storeys tall. On the first floor, there are three leaded casement windows with three lights each, while the ground floor has three segmental headed leaded casement windows, also with three lights each. A six-panelled door with glazed upper panels is located between the first and second windows from the left, sheltered by a flat bracketed porch. Inside, there is a 17th-century fireplace with a chamfered lintel. This building was formerly known as The White Hart Inn.
