Description

The Castle Public House is a late 18th-century building that has been altered over time. It was formerly known as the Brewer's House of the Satchell and Somerset Brewery, which operated from around 1600 to 1870, and later the Newbury Brewery from 1892 to 1932. The building stands two storeys high and features two windows. It has a slate roof with a brick gable stack and is constructed of multi-coloured stock brick with red brick dressings. Notable architectural details include a cornice, a parapet, and gauged red brick arches above the recessed sash windows. The ground floor has a modern shop front. The building is included for its group value.
